Insurance Info

Many of our products are covered with a prescription from a medical doctor however, it depends on the diagnosis and the type of insurance coverage that you have.  Please contact us for further details to see if you are covered, every situation is unique.

We can direct bill to Manitoba Health, Workers Compensation Board, Manitoba Public Insurance, Public Trustee, Employment and Income Assistance, Blue Cross RCMP, Blue Cross Canadian Forces, Blue Cross Veteran’s Affairs, First Canadian Health (NIHB Non-Insured Health Benefits), and the Society of Manitoban’s with Disabilities.  Third party insurance billings are evaluated on an individual basis; the protocol to bill these insurance companies is different and is on a case-by-case evaluation:

Manitoba Health

You need a doctor’s prescription with a date, diagnosis, affected area, your date of birth, and Manitoba Health numbers.  Only specific diagnoses and devices are covered through Manitoba Health so please contact us to see if you are covered.  If you do have a diagnosis and device that is covered through Manitoba Health then no prior approval is needed.

Workers Compensation Board (WCB) and Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI)

You need a doctor’s prescription with a diagnosis, a WCB/MPI claim number and your case workers direct phone line.  We need to get prior approval from your case worker over the phone before we will direct bill the WCB/MPI; sometimes this takes time if they are away from their desk and we need to leave a message.  If you need to leave the store before we hear from your case worker then we set the product aside and will phone you once we hear from them with the answer.  There are no exceptions; we need to hear the approval over the phone before we will let you leave the store with the product.

Public Trustee, Employment and Income Assistance, and the Society with Manitoban’s with Disabilities

You need a doctor’s prescription (unless indicated by you case worker), case number for appropriate coverage, the location of the office that you are involved with and your case workers direct phone line.  We need to get prior approval from your case worker over the phone before we will direct bill the appropriate insurance company; sometimes this takes time if they are away from their desk and we need to leave a message.  If you need to leave the store before we hear from your case worker then we set the product aside and will phone you once we hear from them with the answer.  There are no exceptions; we need to hear the approval over the phone before we will let you leave the store with the product.

Blue Cross RCMP and Canadian Forces

You need your medical numbers (given on your blue cross medical cards) and a doctor’s prescription with diagnosis.  We need to get prior approval from Blue Cross over the phone before we will direct bill them as only certain devices are covered; sometimes this takes time if they are away from their desk and we need to leave a message.  If you need to leave the store before we hear from Blue Cross then we set the product aside and will phone you once we hear from them with the answer.  There are no exceptions; we need to hear the approval over the phone before we will let you leave the store with the product.

Blue Cross Veteran’s Affairs

You need your ‘K’ number and a doctor’s prescription with diagnosis.

First Canadian Health (NIHB: Non-Insured Health Benefits)

You need your I.D. number (treaty number) and a doctor’s prescription with diagnosis.  We need to get prior approval from First Canadian Health as a fax before we will direct bill them as only certain devices are covered; this takes time to process the paperwork and they usually get back to us within a few days. We set the product aside and will phone you once we hear from them with the answer.  There are no exceptions; we need to receive the approval as a fax before we will let you leave the store with the product.

Third Party Insurance Billing

If you are not covered by any of the above insurance companies then it is possible that you have coverage through your third party insurance program such as Great West Life, Blue Cross, Sunlife, Greenshield etc.  However, we do not normally direct bill these insurance companies as every plan is very individual and has different coverage; we require you to pay upfront and then get reimbursed by your personal insurance plan.  Most private insurance companies require you to have a doctor’s prescription with diagnosis, a receipt (from Innovative Medical Supplies) and a claim form designed by the company (usually available to download online).
